Obituary for Larry Curnyn
Lawrence Patrick Curnyn was born on January 1, 1937 in Greeley, Nebraska to John and Marie (Murphy) Curnyn. He grew up in Greeley, NE here he attended the one-room school house that Grandfather Philip Curnyn built on the Homesteaded family property and where his sister, Kathleen taught.
After Larry’s father, Grandfather John Curnyn died in March 1940, Grandmother Marie (Murphy) Curnyn took the 3 youngest children to Omaha, were Larry finished grade school and graduated from Tech High School in 1955. As a young boy, Larry enjoyed teasing his brother, Gerald and telling jokes.
Larry had a fabulous sense of humor and was loved by all who came into contact with him. He was fun loving and marched to the beat of a different drum, leaving an everlasting mark on those around him.
Larry attended Culinary School and became a chef in Toledo, Ohio. As an adult, Larry enjoyed his drink, sport watching, fishing, gardening, cooking and riding his bicycle. Larry cared deeply for his family, even moving back to Omaha to care for his brother, Gerald, while he waited for a heart transplant.
Larry passed away on April 13, 2012 at the Golden Living Nursing Home in Valley, Nebraska at the age of 75 years, 3 months and 12 days. He was preceded in death by parents Marie T. and John S. Curnyn of Omaha, NE; siblings: Kathleen McSharry of Yakima , WA , Monica Lynam of Lenox , IA , Pfc. John Curnyn of Greeley , NE , Margaret Leon of Greeley , NE , Mary Jo Carlson of Council Bluffs , IA, and Gerald T. Curnyn of Omaha , NE. Larry is survived by his sister Rosalie Cullen of Denver, CO, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
