Susan Marie (Friend) Hagemann was born May 16, 1951 in Omaha, Nebraska to John and Mary (Schweigart) Friend. Sue attended Our Lady of Lourdes grade school, and went on to graduate from Notre Dame High School in 1969. Upon graduating from high school, Sue moved to the Omaha School of Nursing, where she was awarded her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) degree in 1971.
Sue married Robert Hagemann on June 17, 1972 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Omaha, and to this union, 9 children were born; Julie, Jeff, Christy, Andy, Bill, Shelley, Lissa, Mary, and Erin. The family has made their home in Yutan for many years.
Sue was a proud and dedicated nurse. She has worked for Clarkson and University Hospitals, but spent 28 years of her career caring for patients at Immanuel Hospital. In addition to her career, Sue loved and cherished her kids and grandkids. She loved spending time with any and all of them, and her favorite sport or team, was whichever one her grandchild was playing at that moment. If she wasn’t cheering on a child or grandchild, Sue enjoyed fishing, traveling, adventures, doing crafts, or creating carved wood pieces.
Sue will be remembered as a loving, caring, silly, funny, honest, and feisty woman. She was the leader, and sergeant of the house, (especially when the kids needed to be reminded, “this house is NOT a gymnasium”. She was a jokester and loved to play tricks on her family & friends. She could be found reading, tending to her flower garden, babysitting, or bird watching, and looked forward to a dinner out at Farmer Brown’s. Sue had a unique way of connecting and communicating with people, and she will be lovingly remembered for her love of people, her love for life, her love for her family, and the love she taught to everyone around her.
Sue was a faithful servant of God who loved to pray/go to church, loved to say the rosary, & loved to recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy. She taught her family that faith is the priority, family is principle, and caring for others is a necessity.
Sue entered into the heavenly gates while at home, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at the age of 66 years, 8 months, and 21 days. She fought the good fight, followed God’s path, and left this earthly place peacefully in the arms of Jesus. She was preceded in death by her father John Friend.
